Is a patient's idea of quality compatible to the NHS?

Quality Improvement & Patient Safety: Session 1

Education, Training & Management

Mr Neil Formstone, Lay member for CPA, RCPath and MEE HCS

For many patients visiting out patient clinics or their GP the understanding of what actually happens to their bio sample is a total mystery.

As they have little understanding of the processes and procedures it is understandable that they feel unable to comment on aspects which they may see as important to them. Those who provide the service are bound by SOP’s and output targets but do they really reflect what the patient sees as being of most importance?

I hope my talk will broaden the discussion about how laboratory services can really meet the needs and demands of patients over the coming years.
