Interprofessional Learning and Biomedical Scientists - are we engaged?

Training & Development: Session 2

Education, Training & Management

Phil Cheetham, Nottingham Trent University

In the early days of biomedical science staff often worked in multidisciplinary roles and often had quite a lot of contact with patients and other staff groups.

Over the last 20 years or more we have all become more specialist and with the introduction of measures such as security controlled doors often lab staff will not see a patient or other staff groups at all in their working day. Inter-professional Learning has been introduced into the education and training curriculum for a number of other healthcare professionals. This talk will look at how successful this has been and how we may introduce best practice in this area into the education and training of Biomedical Scientists.
