How to prepare a good short paper presentation
The short paper presentation sessions at Congress are a great opportunity to promote the most salient points of your research accomplishments to peers. Each presenter will be allocated 15 minutes, 10 - 12 minutes to present their paper and a couple of minutes to answer any questions and will have access to PowerPoint.
In addition to a complimentary one day pass short presenters will have the opportunity to win a prize of £150 for the best short paper presentation in each discipline. Presentations will be judged using the following the criteria:
1. Content of the Talk
- The learning objectives of the short paper were clearly stated and address specific issues.
- The key ideas were clearly explained.
- The understanding issues was evident.
- The presentation ended with a conclusion.
- The conclusions were warranted by the data.
- The knowledge of reference material was evident.?
2. Presentation
- The slides were well organised, neat and attractive.
- The information on slide was concise and complete.
- The information on the slides was presented with correct grammar, spelling and syntax.
- The information on the slides were presented in a creative manner.
- Graphics are clear and labelled appropriately.
3. The presenter understood and answered questions well.
How to prepare a good short paper presentation
To captivate your audience it is important that you prepare the material to be used in your short paper presentation carefully and logically. The presentation must include:
- A brief introduction
- The methods used
- Results
- Conclusions/summary
- References
- Acknowledgements
Avoid
- Including too much material or too many slides for the time available
- Distracting animation
- Complex equations
- Too many statistical results
- Too many conclusions
- Small text.
