The Golden Hour
The purpose of these seminars is to consider the casualties’ needs within this critical period in order to improve outcomes.
The Golden Hour; the time available to rescue, provided initial treatment, transport and deliver the casualty into the care of the definitive consultant for treatment to ensure the best possible chance of successful recovery.
The seminar will discuss the feasibility of the above in light of modern treatment conditions and will be supported by one or two senario to illustrate the points to be considered.
Points that will be considered will be:
- The need for speed in initial assessment and treatment. Should the front line \'medical\' staff stay and play or scoop and run? What are the priorities for treatment, on the scene, in transit, in A & E? How are these assessed?
- Transport methods for trauma and medical cases
- Distances that are acceptable for transporting casualties to major units
- The dirty casualty (bacteriological, chemical, radiological contamination). Does this affect priorities
- The Path point of view.
