IBMS East Midlands sponsored a number of its local members to attend IBMS Congress 2009.

Congress: a vibrant success

The IBMS has announced attendance figures for the recent Biomedical Science Congress, which clearly demonstrate that the biennial event remains the largest and most influential in laboratory medicine.

Haematology training CD-ROM

The Institute, in collaboration with Sysmex, has produced a broad collection of images on CD-ROM, to serve as a useful pre- and post-registration training aid for haematology laboratories.

Education, training and management at Congress

Biomedical science does not stand still and neither does delivering education, training and workforce development. So, this year, as a complement to the Congress plenary session and in the build up to the education and management programme sessions on Modernising Scientific Careers, there will be an emphasis on how to train, how to support staff development and how to
facilitate service development.

Haematology at Congress

The haematology programme promises to be a stimulating and up-to-date review of coagulation-based topics, parasitology, morphology, including the popular interactive morphology quiz, and will provide updates on lymphoma and essential thrombocythaemia.

Immunology at Congress

Monday’s programme will include web-based NEQAS case studies followed by talks on B-cell phenotyping and an IBMS examination information session.

Medical microbiology at Congress

The microbiology programme for Congress, adopting the theme of 'Health of the Nation', will commence on the Monday morning with a look at 'Microbiology and Cancer'.

Transfusion science at Congress

The transfusion science programme will feature an exciting mix of topics reflecting current and future transfusion practice.

Virology at Congress

Following on from the success of the last event, an interesting virology programme has been  developed for this year’s Congress.

Education, Training and Management: additional 'early' lectures
